As democratic freedoms and institutions, and the rule of law face increasing pressure continent-wide, this public talk with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O’Flaherty, will provide an authoritative overview of key challenges and reasons for hope. he will explore how European legal frameworks, national governments, civil society, and international institutions can uphold human dignity in an evolving political climate where even the political middle ground is showing great signs of weakness.

Welsh male voice choir, ‘ Meibion Y Mynydd’ - Sons of the Hills, will be performing a free concert at St Mark’s English Church on Sunday October 25th at 18.00.

All are welcome to come and hear them, and to enjoy the Welsh male voices.

Bishop of Europe, Robert Innes will be leading our Choral Eucharist this Sunday.

In the afternoon, he will go to Holy Cross, Bologna with Father Chris, to lead a confirmation service.

Every third Sunday we have a Bring and Share Lunch after the service, to which you are invited.

If you can, please bring some food to share with others; perhaps a favourite dish, or something you have bought from Conad! Food and drink are welcome.

Please label the ingredients of your food, so those with allergies can eat safely.

If you can’t bring anything, don’t worry, we will share what we have!

Bring your pets to be celebrated and blessed at this special service, on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi. Please be aware they are your responsibilty.

If you are unable to bring your pet, please email a photo with the name of your pet, where they live, and who you are. We will have an opportunity for each photo to be held up, with the names read out during the service. Thses photos need to arrive no later than 30th September, so we can print them ready for Sunday 4th October.

LADIES…

Once a term, our ladies get together for Brunch (breakfast/lunch).

We start at 11.30, and we eat and chat with each other around tables, taking the time to make friends and renew aquaintances.

Susan will be our speaker and she will give a short talk entitled, ‘Eve, the most misunderstood woman in history. Separating the Biblical Eve, from 2000 years of interpetation’. A talk not to be missed!

There is a suggested donation of €10 to cover the cost of the food. Please bring this on the day. if you cannot afford this, give what you can.

Our Third Sunday Bring and Share lunch is a great opportunity to spend time with people here in Florence, whether you are here for a day, a week, a semester or live here permanently.

Bring your favourite food and drink to share with others, or if you cannot cook something, buy something from the supermarket.
If you are unable to do either, please come along anyway, we would love to share what we have with you.

WAITING FOR GODOT by Samuel Beckett directed by Rupert Mason & Justin Butcher

Two penniless vagrants in rags and ruined boots meet by a barren tree on an abandoned stretch of road through a wasteland and wait - for the mysterious Godot who, when he comes, will provide their salvation. They pass the time in banter, philosophical musings, clowning and argument, always hoping that the longed-for Godot will appear. A bullying, wealthy tyrant named Pozzo appears, leading his demented slave Lucky on a rope, and converses with them, and later a young boy, a messenger who tells them that ‘Mr Godot’ sends his apologies, but will certainly come tomorrow.

Nearly 80 years since its composition in Paris in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War, Samuel Beckett’s tragicomic absurdist masterpiece continues to delight, intrigue, move and inspire with its rich mix of slapstick clowning, vaudeville vulgarity, lyrical Irish banter and poignant existential yearning.
